"I met with several roofers in the Durham area when my elderly parents discovered they were badly in need of a new roof. After feeling as though they were being taken advantage of and being sold products which they didn't need, I stumbled upon Clyde Hance's website and phone number. Boy am I thankful that I did! One of the first ways in which Mr. Hance made an excellent impression was with his willingness to answer the phone HIMSELF, even though he is the owner of the business, and his polite manners and patient style. He answered my numerous screening questions and then never failed to lose his patience when my parents asked many of the same questions on subsequent phone calls. Not only was Mr. Hance's proposal more detailed and better explained, but it enabled me (and my parents) to more easily decide which repairs and services we needed to perform regardless and which ones were optional. Clyde's prices seemed fair and competitive, not inflated compared to the three other estimates we had already obtained. We hoped we would get the quality and professionalism we needed for our peace of mind. Once we hired Clyde for the job he and his crew were punctual, friendly and cleaned up the jobsite every day. As new questions sometimes arose, he never failed to return phone calls or emails in a timely fashion. Not only was Clyde reliable and always on the jobsite when he said he would be, but he was a true general contractor. To some degree, any construction job estimate is based on what the homeowners and contractor can glean from what is known or visible to the naked eye before the job begins. Of course, it is impossible to reduce to zero the unexpected modifications that will inevitably arise. In our case, this was fairly limited and included some additional siding that was more rotted than we could see from the surface and some additional water damage to some of the roof sheathing. But, no matter what, when the unexpected problem arose, Clyde dealt with it so my parents didn't have to. If their input WAS needed to make a decision, he always presented them with several options and ensured that they were satisfied with the results. We did end up needing to do the entire roof, which was what we all thought was likely, and Clyde helped us to pick a reasonably priced dimensional shingle which matches the look of my parents' home very nicely. In addition to the roofing work, Clyde ended up recommending some gutter repairs and replacement which will ensure better water removal away from the foundation. There were a few complicated areas where the gutters had not been properly installed by previous owners/contractors and Clyde was able to leave things better than when he started. His repairs will keep water from emptying out on the driveway in place that already had poor drainage and can become icy in the cooler weather. We are thrilled with the final result and look and would highly recommend Clyde Hance and his team."
